Where is Brynjolf after killing Mercer?
He's hiding out in the Ratway Warrens.
He doesn't talk to you after the main storyline. You have to completel the side quests that lead to city influence quests and complete them, and Brynjolf will talk to you again. It isn't a bug. After you finish the Thieves Guild quest line, Brynjolf won't have anymore dialogue for you to interact with.
Getting back to Brynjolf
Once the debts have been collected, return to Brynjolf in the Ragged Flagon. He will invite the Dragonborn to follow him to the cistern, where the Guildmaster, Mercer Frey, will give the next quest, "Loud and Clear," and welcome the Dragonborn to the guild.
Brynjolf may sometimes be located in the corner of the archery and lockpicking training room inside the Cistern. Once found, follow him to the center of the Cistern where the Guild officers will initiate the Dragonborn as the new Guild Master.
Brynjolf is marriable and can be a follower. Compatible with Hearthfire but doesn't require it.
Brynjolf is the right hand man of Mercer Frey and helps him run the Thieves' Guild as well as scouting new recruits. If he is not in the Ragged Flagon, he can usually be found at the market place in Riften selling goods.
Because he is wearing Guild Armour, you have commited an offense against the guild. They will try to kill you.
Returning to Brynjolf
After the Dragonborn escapes the estate, they need to return to Brynjolf. He will be in the cistern. An easier way to get there is to go to Riften's graveyard, and press the button on the large tomb to reveal a secret passageway.
Fandom. Brynjolf - where is he from? He's obviously a Nord, but yet his accent is definitely Scottish... (he even has red hair, as we all Scots are meant to have lol).
In Skyrim, you can marry anyone of any gender or race. If you're a male Nord, you could marry a male Orc if you wish! Oh, the possibilities!
Should I smash Bersi's urn?
To remedy this, just turn around and smash the Dwarven Urn just under the window. When you start attacking it, Bersi will start protesting. Ignore him and continue hitting until it breaks in half. Talk to him after breaking the vase and he will hand over the money without a fuss.
To start the quest, you need to visit the marketplace in Riften and wait for a fellow, named Brynjolf, to come and talk to you. If you want to save time, you can just find him in The Bee and the Barb tavern and start a conversation with him yourself.

After you speak to Brynjolf, there is a short ceremony, during which you are named Guild Master. After the ceremony, you must again talk to Brynjolf, who will hand you the Tribute Chest Key and the Amulet of Articulation. The key unlocks the chest near the Guild Master's desk.
These quests are endless, proving the guild with endless gold! From this all, 4 vendors will allocate themselves in the ragged flagon, allowing you to purchase and sell stolen goods. The only places you will be left without a fence are Falkreath, Dawnstar and Morthal.
Thieves Guild Ceremony
Now that you have completed the main storyline, as well as the quests given by Delvin Mallory, speak with Brynjolf to become the leader of the guild. Upon speaking with him, a small ceremony will take place, and you will become the Guild Master.
